The Lord's PrayerOur Father,
Top of PageThe DoxologyGlory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
Top of PagePrayer Before the CrucifixO good and gentle Jesus, I kneel before you asking you most earnestly to engrave upon my heart a deep and lively faith, hope, and charity, with true repentance for my sins, and a firm resolve to make amends. As I reflect upon your five wounds, and dwell upon them with deep compassion and grief, I recall, good Jesus, the words the prophet David spoke long ago concerning you: "They have pierced my hands and my feet, they have counted all my bones." Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Top of PageAdoro Te Devote
I devoutly adore you, O hidden God,
Sight, touch, taste are all deceived
On the cross only the divinity was hidden,
I do not see the wounds as Thomas did,
O memorial of our Lord's death!
Lord Jesus, Good Pelican,
Top of PagePrayer of St Ignatius LoyolaLord Jesus Christ, take all my freedom, my memory, my understanding, and my will. All that I have and cherish you have given me. I surrender it all to be guided by your will. Your grace and your love are wealth enough for me. Give me these, Lord Jesus, and I ask for nothing more. Top of PageCome, Holy SpiritCome, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of thy faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of thy love. Send forth thy Spirit, and they shall be created; and thou shalt renew the face of the earth. Let us pray. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit didst instruct the hearts of thy faithful, grant us in that same Spirit to be truly wise and ever to rejoice in His consolations, through Christ our Lord. Amen. Top of PagePrayer of St FrancisLord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
Top of PageAct of FaithO my God, I firmly believe that thou art one God in three divine persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe that thy Divine Son became man, and died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because thou hast revealed them, who canst neither deceive nor be deceived. Top of PageAct of HopeO my God, relying on thy almighty power, and infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of thy grace, and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. Top of PageAct of LoveO my God, I love thee above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because thou art all-good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of thee. I forgive all who have injured me, and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Top of PageAn Act of ContritionO my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended thee. And I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven, and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen. Top of PageThe Hail MaryHail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Top of PageHail Holy QueenHail Holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Top of PageThe Memorare
Top of PageThe RosaryThe practice of praying the rosary arose in the early 13th century through the preaching of St. Dominic against the Albigensian heresy, which held that bodily existence is inherently evil, and that the liberation of the soul from its captivity in the body is the true end of our being. The Albigensians saw procreation as evil and called for complete chastity, and even advocated suicide through starvation as a way to salvation. Dominic encouraged the praying of the rosary as an affirmation of the sanctity of human life. We affirm the dignity of human life in our time as Dominic did against the evil of his day with the words, "Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus!"
